London Olympics 2012? Paralympics 2012? No… It’s Walsall Schools Athletics Competition at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham
Last Thursday 20th September 2012, our dynamic PE Staff Stuart Sprague and Jayne Yates took a team of 24 willing athletes to the Alexandra Stadium in Birmingham ( a major venue for athletics events and the home of the Birchfield Harriers) to take part in the Walsall Schools Athletics competition.
The weather was a little damp, but spirits were still running high.
All students, representing West Walsall E-Act Academy, did so with great enthusiasm, immaculate behaviour and incredible effort.
Prior to this year, we had only won a small amount of medals, but this year, the new and improved WWEA athletics team won an amazing 6 medals!
Soms – Year 8
- Gold – Year 8 boys Javelin
- Silver – Year 8 boys Discus
- Bronze – Year 8 boys 100 meters
Rhianna – Year 8
- Silver – Year 8 girls 100 meters.
Tia and Zirab also won silver medals in their races and will receive their medals shortly.
Owen and Seyoum summed up the day very well and showed the WWEA spirit perfectly…!
Owen after not being overly successful in his Discuss and Shot Put events said (with a huge grin on his face) ‘Guess I’m going to have to get in the gym and come back bigger and stronger next year!!’
Seyoum was struggling towards the end of his 400 meter race. As he ran past the packed grandstand he started side-stepping (facing the crowd), grinning and waving at Team WWEA, which had everyone in stitches!
