On Friday 14th December, West Walsall E-ACT Academy opened it’s doors to a whole host of special guests for it’s official launch day.
Post-16 students led the proceedings by greeting guests in the Innovation Centre. After an introduction by Principal, Mr Andy Hubble, outlining the aims and aspirations of our academy, guests were led down to the main building to witness the opening ceremony by E-ACT Director General, Sir Bruce Liddington.
After cutting the ribbon, Sir Bruce unveiled a plaque, officially launching West Walsall E-ACT Academy.
The guests were then taken on tours of the academy with Head Students taking them to a variety of classes, giving them a chance to see WWEA in action. They also got to witness the special activities our house teams were taking part in, before the whole school sat down for Christmas lunch.
The whole canteen was decked out for Christmas, complete with crackers and a towering Christmas tree resplendent with festive lights.
The day was a hailed a great success. Our guests left informed and delighted by the wonderful learning environment they found themselves immersed in at WWEA. But above all, our students enjoyed themselves. From the special Christmas lunch, to the engaging and competitive house activities, the launch day was certainly a day to remember.
Additional post by Anson House Digital Champion, Sam Smith:
14th December 2012 was a ‘new beginning’ day of excitement, joy and unity. We all came together for a single purpose – the official opening of West Walsall E-Act Academy. Our Post-16 students were a big part of the day, helping to arrange much of the day and assisting with both canteen and form activities. The day could not have proceeded so well without their massive contribution.
The canteen was dressed up with a festive Christmas theme, with decorative tables and of course the large tree. Staff and students had a choice from three splendid dinners, either roast turkey, halal or vegetarian:
- Turkey, stuffing, sausages wrapped in bacon, peas, sweet corn, carrots & potatoes
- Halal, chicken tikka, lasagne, peas, sweet corn, carrots & potatoes
- Vegetarian corn lasagne, lasagne, peas, sweet corn, carrots & potatoes
Dessert included a choice from: Christmas pudding (optional custard), mince pie, chocolate gateau or trifle
In forms and house assemblies there were a large number of fun activities ranging from the creation of 3D cookies with ‘WWEA’ and ‘West Walsall E-Act Academy’ on them, to song & dance performances such as ‘Gangnam Style’ and ‘Macarena’. At the end of the assemblies E-ACT badges and house coloured pen drives were handed out to each student.
