On a sunny but windy afternoon of Friday March 21st, WWEA held their Sport Relief Mile. It was a really successful afternoon with both staff and students combining to raise over £450.00. The timed mile race was very competitive with Nico (year 10) winning for the boys, and Jaiden (year 7) for the girls. This year our students have won an impressive 2 Gold, 4 Silver & 8 Bronze Intermediate Maths Challenge Certificates: Gold – Sonia & Myles (Yr11) Silver – Bryony, Aadil, Vinny (Yr11) & Sabah (Yr10) Bronze – Paul (Yr11), Ayanteh, Mohammed, Sarmed (Yr10), Luqmaan, Adiba, David & Tiberius (Yr9) Sonia has been selected for the next round of Intermediate Maths Challenge – the Pink Kangeroo – due on Thursday 20.03.14.
Navjot (Wyndlow), Promise (Hadley), Darnell (Carnegie) and Liam (Anson) were the lucky recipients of last term’s £50 attendance vouchers, recognising their 100% attendance record at the academy during the autumn term. Their names were randomly chosen at the end of term assembly, ahead of other students with 100% attendance in their respective houses. Three students cashed in their vouchers this term at JD Sports in Walsall. The Student Parliament once again made the decision to award the vouchers, after discussion and voting in previous meetings. A Young Enterprise competition was held recently at the Mander Centre in Wolverhampton, where our team ‘We are WWEA!’ competed against other schools from around the Midlands. We set up our own store full with personalised Christmas cards, jewellery, book markers and confectionary. We managed to sell many cards on the day and now need to come up with a single idea for our product to sell at the main trade fair in March 2013. West Walsall E-ACT Academy decided to raise money for Children in Need, the BBC charity which supports thousands of people aged 18 and under. Our Academy managed to raise a mammoth £2,000, so a huge thank you to all students and staff that arranged, organised and contributed towards this worthy cause. The MFL department celebrated the European Day of Languages on the 26th September by entering Aston University’s poster competition. The competition was very successful and the quality of posters entered was outstanding. Winners include: KS4 ~ Rebecca Dilger (1st), NayeemHussain (2nd), Gemma Nealen (3rd) KS3 ~ Amber Bailey (1st), Tia Ollerhead (2nd), Carla Goode (3rd) These winning entries have now been sent to Aston University to enter the West Midlands competition. England players Sophie Bradley and Jess Clarke generated huge excitement amongst our girls, ahead of England’s crucial qualifier against Croatia at the Banks’s Stadium on Wednesday 19th September. Many of our students attended a joint trip with Alumwell Junior School to cheer England ladies to a 3-0 win, gaining three points that will send them to the Euro 2013 Finals in Sweden.
