Subject statement

In Art we seek to develop students’ awareness of the world around them and how Art, Craft and Design enrich our lives and cultures. Students are encouraged to explore creative ideas whilst learning and developing skills in a wide range of techniques and media. Students develop an awareness of Art, design and Craft work from various cultures and Art movements.

Subject overview

Art is taught to all students at Key Stage 3 and is an option subject at Key Stage 4. Students at Key Stage 3 have the opportunity to work with an exciting range of two and three dimensional media including drawing, painting, clay, textiles, wirework, card sculpture and collage. At Key Stage 4, students can choose to study Art and Design or Art Textiles at GCSE and at Key Stage 5 students can choose their strongest area to select as a specialism to study at A Level or they can work more broadly within Art and Design and study several specialist areas such as Photography, Fine Art and Textiles.
