Subject overview

At the academy, Business is introduced at Key Stage 4. Students can choose the academic GCSE in Business Studies or the more vocational BTEC Level 2 in Business. Both these courses provide a good foundation for studies at Post 16.

At GCSE, students study how small businesses operate, grow and communicate. They sit external exams and complete a controlled assessment. At BTEC Level 2 the emphasis is on finding out how businesses operate and interact in the real world. This is assessed mainly through school set assignments.

At Post 16 we currently offer BTEC Level 3 in Business. There are a variety of optional units to suit individual needs, these range from Accounting to Marketing and from Human Resources to Starting a Small Business. This course doesn’t involve any exams and is currently assessed through solely through coursework. We are hoping to introduce AS and A level Business in the very near future.
