Year 7You will learn the basic skills and rules for swimming, invasion games, badminton, gymnastics, trampolining, striking and fielding and athleticsYour teacher will assess your skills and understanding for each activity through observation of your performance and your contribution to class discussion and questioning.
Year 8You will learn more advanced skills and rules for swimming, invasion games, badminton, gymnastics, trampolining, striking and fielding and athleticsYou will perform, where appropriate, to the other pupils and evaluate your own and others’ performances using musical vocabulary
Year 9You will develop your ability to link your skills and develop tactics for swimming, invasion games, badminton, gymnastics, trampolining, striking and fielding and athleticsYour teacher will assess your skills and understanding for each activity through observation of your performance and your contribution to class discussion and questioning.
Year 10BTEC Sport: you will study the skills, tactics, rules and regulations for two sports. You will also learn about components of fitness and how to train and test each component.Your work on skills, tactics and rules of sport will be assessed through a series of internally assessed and externally moderated pieces of coursework. Your knowledge of fitness will be assessed through an external examination which will take place on a computer. Each unit is worth 25% of your final grade.
The performances and compositions are on-going coursework and as such developed over both years. They are moderated externally.
Year 11
BTEC Sport: you will learn about the mind in sport and develop your understanding of how different people perform under pressure. You will also learn about sports physiology to discover the changes that occur in the body during exercise.
GCSE PE: you will study the sports covered in year 10 in greater detail to enhance your skills and performance. You will develop your ability to synthesise the knowledge gained in year 10 to relate it to a sporting scenario.
BTEC Sport: Each unit is assessed through a number of internally assessed and externally moderated assignments graded at P, M or D. the qualification grade is calculated by the total points gained from the two units in year 10 and two in year 11. Each unit is worth 25% of your final grade.
GCSE: you will be internally assessed and externally moderated for your practical sports performance and one piece of controlled assessment making up 60% of your grade. You will sit a 1 ½ hour external examination in May counting for 40% of your overall grade.
Year 13You will study three units to develop your knowledge of anatomy, physiology and psychology of sport. You will be able to use different sporting examples to analyse the effect of a number of psychological and physiological factors on performance.Each unit is assessed through a number of internally assessed and externally moderated assignments graded at P, M or D.
